Use of cookies

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file that stores Internet settings. Almost every website uses this technology. It is downloaded by your Internet browser the first time you visit a website. The next time this website is accessed using the same terminal device, the cookie and the information stored in it is either sent back to the website that generated it (first party cookie) or sent to another website to which it belongs (third party cookie). This enables the website to recognise that you have been visited before with this browser and, in some cases, varies the content displayed.

Some cookies are extremely useful because they can improve the user experience when you revisit a website that you have visited several times before. Provided that you use the same terminal device and the same browser as before, cookies will remember your preferences, e.g. in telling you how to use a page, and adapt the offerings displayed with greater relevance to your personal interests and needs. Most of the cookies used by us are automatically deleted from your hard drive at the end of the browser session ("session cookies"). Moreover, we also use cookies that remain on your hard drive after the session. This is done primarily in order to improve the user experience within the website is called up again, by subsequently adapting the website to your personal requirements and thus optimising loading times.
